AI Ethics and Building a Data Governance Agent with Copilot

Course Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, students will be able to:: 

• Describe the key UK and EU regulatory requirements affecting AI use at work — EU AI Act, UK and EU GDPR, Data Protection Act, copyright, and FOI / disclosure implications

• Identify the line between "must not" (legal) and "should not" (ethical or reputational), and recognise who within their organisation owns the difference

• Build and refine a Governance Agent that evaluates prompts and outputs against a defined ruleset

• Apply the Governance Agent to realistic scenarios drawn from their own role and judge where it helps, where it misses, and where it overreaches

• Recognise the limits of an agent-based safeguard — what it does well, and where human judgement remains essential
